Mount Fuji day trip from Tokyo: bus, train or tour?

To Lake Kawaguchiko, the highway bus from Busta Shinjuku is cheapest (¥2,200, about 1 hour 45 minutes, with dozens of departures a day); the Fuji Excursion limited express is a direct train for ¥4,200 in about 2 hours. A day tour saves planning, but there is usually no refund if Fuji is hidden by cloud. Fares are from Fujikyu, checked on 29 October 2026.

Chureito Pagoda, the 5th Station and tours

For the view of Chureito Pagoda with Fuji behind it, take Fujikyu Railway to Shimoyoshida and walk about 30 minutes, following the signs.

The bus to the 5th Station runs only while the Fuji Subaru Line is open: it turns back at the 4th Station when the road is open only that far, and does not run when the road is closed.

Day tours from Shinjuku or Tokyo Station usually take 10–12 hours by coach and stop at Chureito Pagoda, Oishi Park, Oshino Hakkai and Lake Kawaguchiko. Compare: Mount Fuji tours on Klook, KKday.

Crowds and new local rules

Fujikawaguchiko town asks visitors not to park illegally around crowded spots such as Oishi Park, and will charge an accommodation tax of ¥200 per person per night from 1 April 2027.
